BOOK FREE. Mouse wayyyyy
down, but you will miss my anecdotes-- And your
identity
On
Identity:
"Who you are is what
you are, an in divisive soul, with imaginative
essence, uniquely identified within an ethical
society and to be fully determined when time is no
more for one or for all." jkr "...and the last
hour steals on unperceived." Samuel Johnson
A teacher me? If only.
"The words, the
appropriate words, all available to explain life’s ever evolving
experiences; and all are in Webster’s dictionary each with
factious meaning, but without encyclopedic
coherence.
If only I
could harmonize Webster’s words revealing, with written
mental logic, a description of the meaning of
existence, I would compare this writing skill with Van
Gogh’s brushing of the oils; His brush awakening new
perspectives, discerning our visual universe.
If only I could
invoke, with remotely comparable skill, one composed inscription
conveying enlightenment to a reader;
If only, for the
benefit of one single individual, I could emit the
written equivalent wattage of a lightning-bug, lighting a
person's current blinded path encompassing bias with
certain ensuing ignorance; If only, I could redirect
his neuron paths to that of truth and ethics, I would be
a writer. More so, I would be a teacher."
jkr
And my epithet is written;
"Having
shown some one soul a path to learning, envisages for me a
meaning for living; And now, no regressive steps
backward. The path ahead is lighted, paved with yellow
bricks, and will be forever explored with giant
steps defying even Nature's gravity."
Phantasy = Fantasy or does it?
A child, just down the
street, plays dress-up on her lawn. Hope; Her hope, with youthful
resilience, will not be diminished by inevitable
disappointments:
"And me? ‘Oh! If only I could be such a
happy dreamer as she? Oh, mighty Zeus, please allow me to
rub the magic lantern of imaginary thought like she?’ Genie, I
ask for just one belated repose, to start life again, but with
the added virtuous insights observed, but not gained, from
experience. And redirect my precipitous path from its
current barren consciousness to that of the glorious
imagination of this uninhibited child.’" jkr
Dreams
of a child; Perceptive reality -- or?
Pessimism Is Me
My ‘6' Senses contravene
reality;
Seldom is what I read a
reality,
Seldom is what I hear a
reality,
Seldom is what I touch a
reality,
Seldom is what I taste a
reality,
Seldom is what I smell a
reality,
Seldom is what I see a
reality,
Am I missing reality?
jkr
On Nature:
"The wonders of
nature's sounds; the reflective, is it here or
there, the warning hum of a bee, the forlorn sound
of the loon, destined waves washing ashore, an amorous
bull moose grunting for a mate; Each sound only virtually
duplicated when an articulate plays the Stradivarius violin!"
jkr

Horticulturist --
Me?
"Beauty is in the eye
of the beholder."....anonymous
"Bias refracts
pristine rays of light from its natural source of illumination shunting elucidation
into a path destined for certain absurdity." jkr Horticulturist
me?
On Being Power Hungry:
"A person’s virtue has
meaningless minute measure when compared to his vices."
jkr ...Ask Bill Clinton
And in the same
current shadowy political stage:
"An unscrupulous desire
for power rather than the protection of
virtue arises from the self-recognition of one’s/her
inferiority resulting in a blurred astigmatism to the vices
of a mate, of one’s self, and promotes endearing attraction to
associates with the same corruptions." jkr ... Ask Hillary Clinton.
On Optimism:
"The glass is half full
and not half empty."...anonymous "The end is always a beginning."
jkr
"Easily embarrassed
about something–everything? Yup, me too! I used to be all
the time. Self-confidence helps, but the problem still
persists. Why? The more confident you get, the
more you don’t want to disappoint -- yourself."
jkr
ON Negativism:
And here we thought 'Dirty
Harry', Clint Eastwood, was protecting us all these
years from the bad guys with his 357 magnum (38
caliber), the biggest caliber production pistol in the
world, and now as a remembrance to Carlton Hesston,
Mosses, ex-NRA Pres., Smith and Wesson Co. is
manufacturing a 500 magnum and selling it on the "street." You
want to know the sad truth? The 50 caliber magnum with
metal piercing bullet is almost un-stoppable except in
death to an officer or bystander and for
what? Profit--money for Smith & Wesson Arms
Co. Surely the U.S. Congress must
love Smith & Wesson's profit motive and Carlton
Hesston. For what? MONEY?
Win
or Win Situations:
When I curl; I
win when I lose and I win when I win! ...Say what?
jkr Counterpoint: English
translation from Greek via. Latin by
Francis... "Death, or a joyful conquest, ends the
fight." Taken
from libello: Horace, Epistles,II
More On, ‘Say
what?’
"If one could accurately
perceive, with perfection of acuity, that which is visually
perceivable; then, this purged purity of heart would
elevate the heaviest of souls to the heavens"
jkr....'Say what'
Being an aspiring
writer; I thought one should emulate Ottawa's politicians,
in which case, less is communicated with more
words.
.On Philosophy:
"Pursuing life as if you are on a treasure hunt may
reward you with gold, but sorely, not life." jkr Ask Martha
Stewart.
"If the Genie in the lamp would grant you but
one
wish? What would you ask for? Me? ‘Please, Genie, let me
learn from my every mistake?’" jkr
On the disenfranchised -----including
animals: I never
gave a thought because I always "had it all."
I, a human, sometimes
intelligent being, who, hunts - kills - shoots unsuspecting
animals with precision technology to pump up a lacking ego,
to prove oneself a ‘macho’ man and is me -- was
me, and thank compassionate logic, I will never kill
another animal. If only, I could re-do my life's ignorance and
bring back those unwary animals I killed -- and -- their
offspring? These animals would then be running onto the
highway being killed themselves and killing humans!
Oh!
Having self-confidence:
"When you no longer
have a need to exploit, for self-gratification, every
situation and, particularly, every person." jkr "Performing the mundane with dedication often
produces the remarkable." (Mothers have known that from inception.)
jkr
On Patriotism:
Prime Minister Jean
Chretien, "O Lord, I have but one life to give for my
country so I recommend Paul
Martin. P.S. Can you take him in the next few
days?" jkr
On Surprises:
You get the "PG"
notice and the words, "Be advised this show represents
nudity and course language," when you are about to
watch, "It's A Wonderful Life," a Christmas show, (1947)
James Stewart.
On Logic:
"There are many
who, with open mind, can comprehend what ‘others’ have
discovered. Unfortunately, creativity has always been
limited by there being few ‘others’ capable of
discovery." Paraphrased: "There are many who can
follow a road-map yet few who can make one.
"jkr
"Logic is as logic does: Three people attempt to
forge a horseshoe of steel; one a small person, one a big
muscular person, and one a smart person. Which person would
heat the metal first?" jkr
On Horse Sense:
"The easiest way to
solve a problem is to start with the answer." jkr
"If one
could be both: "wise as a fool" and "dumb like a fox."
jkr "The coordinated analysis of a problem is
usually more constructive than merely seeking an
answer." "Looking for and finding answers usually leads to
finding more problems."
On Contemplation:
When is "less" better
than "more?" (Other than in golf) Is a horse more endowed than a
centipede?
Do you think Aristotle or Einstein awoke one
morning and thought to themselves? "Today, I will attempt
to make sense of creation's unsettling reality." jkr
On Determination:
"Life was determined when you made that
first squeal, and is equally determinate when you make the last gasp."
jkr
On Teaching:
A skilled teacher may not
always offer an explicit answer to a student's question
but, maybe, a more enlightening, "huh?" "He has learned to no
purpose, that is not able to teach;..." Samuel
Johnson I would add; "He that learns in a
society should give back, by way of teaching, to
that society twelve fold what has been gained from learned
self-enlightenment." jkr
On Living:
"Life is what you make of it; But, 'Oh, how the
mistakes hurt.'" JKR
"A differential equation we will solve
today, but a psychological problem? Hopefully, in a
lifetime." jkr
Truths: Being a student:
"Now, I write what I
write because I want to write, but when I was a
student, I had to be coerced to write." jkr
On Curling:
"T’wether ye be god,
Pluto, or squire, Plato, wi the litt’lst of practice can ye
toss the wee Ailsa Craig forty poundre down the
ice like a thunderbolt to the wee spot yonder on
frowzen moor." jkr Written in

Curling, the sport
for all:
Old country political and
social attitudes, graciously put -- social
discrimination, has not hindered the growth of the game of
"Curling."
Boswell said while
writing Johnson’s life story, "But, the too rapid advances of men of
low extraction tends to lessen the value of that
distinction by birth and geniality, which has ever been
found beneficial to the grand scheme of
subordination."
He, Boswell, was talking
about several of his and Johnson’s crony acquaintances from
an English pub in 1765 that were 'commoners' of low
wit, but brewers of some earned esteem such that
their distillations were 'quite good and quite
profitable' to this point, these merchants were
already able to ‘buy into’ a higher social
position. This makes me think of the Joe Kennedy
family in the 20'th century who didn’t garner the
respectful acclaim as brewers, but depicted as "just
bootleggers," and in retrospect with no comparison to the
skilled brewers in England of the 18'th
century. And we know where they, the Kennedy
family, ended up and not in a curling
rink.
The several curling
commentators wonder why, with their many recurrent expletives, why
Colleen Jones hits her out-turns better than in-turns. It is as
Samuel Johnson has written; "...but if little violations
are allowed, every violation will in time be thought
little." Athletic kinesiology examines
these "little
violations" of movement and in Colleen's
case---she does not "throw-out" the out-turn when applying rock
rotation because it is initiated with the thumb push about the
rock's center of rotation--without twisting the wrist! The delivery
hand/arm remain straight on the brush target during release
(Colleen's rightee delivery).
In the same Samuel Johnson's
"little
violations"
vane and the way most wrongly taught curlers inappropriately grip
the rock handle in the "old wrong lift method," she "throws-out" the
in-turn with the 4 fingers applying turn because "the tight grip"
automatically causes a wrist and arm rotation causing rock delivery
misalignment.
Now, wasn't that fault easy to
analyze? And yet, Colleen and most other curlers will carry this
fault to the grave. For it was said: "Men must be taught as if you
taught them not; And things unknown propos'd (sic) as things
forgot."
--Alexander Pope
I wonder if Messrs.
Pope and Johnson were coaches?--- As they were and always
will be in my mind's eye of very discriminating
recognition, certainly, teachers! jkr A repose: "I thought-ed myself smart until I read Samuel
Johnson and now I think-ed me to be but a kindergarten
student with incontinence of the bladder and yet shy to
raise my hand to attract the teacher's attention. And not
help-ed by self recognition of a sorry lack of writing
competence, but one who is about to wet his pants whilst
tears of joy stream down my jowls having been coincident to
his works, and yet unknown to him for now except in my here
and now-for a short time while I alone encounter with his
internet genius on-line, belatedly digitally
recorded, works of a brilliant inquisitive
mind." JKR If
just one person would say, "Aw, what a smart guy are you to
write such words," I would, momentarily, envision myself in
the same literary heaven as Samuel Johnson 1709 --
1784. And then I would walk barefoot to the local pub on a cold
Canadian nite!
"When one attempts to draw
water from the well of knowledge, he will be, too often, thwarted by
the thick ice layer of biased opinion." jkr
"In the pursuit
of truth and ultimate knowledge, the object of a question may not be
to seek an answer, but simply to generate a better question."
jkr "An astute interviewer is not interested in the
evident, but more so, the subtle." jkr
SARS on curling rock
handles? Maybe not "the" SARS virus, but many others and bacteria as
well. All can "live" hours to 170 days+ at 3 degrees C on curling
rock handles. Progressive clubs should provide a bactericide with
the normal tissue supply to clean rock handles before a game to
protect the 1,000,000 curlers who transmit viruses one to the other
and their 3,000,000 family members at home. AND, do not shake
hands before and after a game--Respectfully bow like the Oriental
sign of respect.
"Many times, when
executing a curling strategy, what you do not do is more important
than what you do do."
"The most important
single act in becoming an excellent curler is hitting the target
broom, 80%+, and wearing clean underwear when traveling to the
curling rink in the event of an accident." The height of ones
creativity and/or skill improvement is limited only by erroneous
pre-learned bias.
"Hydroplaning
rocks"??? Really. How ignorant is this
new lady commentator for the TSN/CBC , Gauthier?, (sp) at the WORLDS about curling
technology!! There is much wrong technical information embedded in
people's minds confusing actual physics with the mythology of
curling so we don't need commentators to add to falsely
'learned' information. On several occasions the Swedish men
playing the Ferbey team on Thursday, AM, stopped curl entirely by
brushing the slow side of the rock and she said "the handle died
causing the rock to hydroplane and over curl." In actual fact, these
brushers stopped handle rotation by short brushing one half the
rock's running surface, (2-1/2"). They are using the slow side
brushing technique and actually stopped curl. If they new everything
about "slow side" brushing, they would be able to "back up" the rock
by up to 3". This is the beginning of brushing to control
rock travel in a major
curling event. The Junior World ladies from Saskatchewan performed
rock control brushing to a small degree, enough to help win them the
Junior Worlds. It is clear the regular TSN sports commentator,
Vic Rauter, knows more about curling than the "embedded" experts.
Where is Marilyn Bodogh, Mike Harris or Ed Lukowich? These
commentators talk about facts they know leaving speculation to the
philosophers. Ed doesn't know anything about brushing to control
rock travel or he would teach the Yanks to brush effectively. The
YANKS men arm boost almost every shot having no line or draw control
and hence lose every game anyway.

Joan McCusker, world's second best
brusher to stop rock curl, next to me; that is. She sweeps
the slow side of the rock (knowingly or unknowingly) with high
cycles with brush head precisely parallel to the centerline.
Pressure is not as critical as cycles and WHERE you brush and with
what type brush head, so women
CAN brush as good as men. If women
learn the genuflect two handed delivery, they
can beat men at their own game. I could teach Joan to increase curl with brushing
by brushing the fast side of the rock and with the VERTICAL no
strain brushing technique!! She needs only a brush shaft that is
4' 6" in
length. Taller people need longer brush
handles. I use a handle length of 5'-0" to facilitate
the NO-STRAIN rock control vertical
stance brushing technique.
Joan
uses a little
of the new available technology. Men "know too much" to learn new
ideas so will remain far behind the ladies. I said women will beat the men in this millenium!!! Give
me 3 Joan McCusters and I will beat any men's team in the world
if I teach her to push the rock for delivery
with 2 hands and release left or right handed and brush with
technology...
"As a backyard philosopher, I can
only give to intelligent beings the cognizance of the weapon to slew
all life's dragons and that is the sword of creative
thought." Remember as
you experience your one life's adventure, "Who you are is
no more or less than who you think you are." jkr And fate,
whether good or bad, as envisioned by self
"You may reach the mountain's peak by an
arduous and dangerous climb or simply fly to the summit in a
helicopter."
Aristotle wrote,"...man is an imitative being." Most people are, in fact, followers and never get
out of the beaten track of similitude. This is why 99% of
curlers simply follow the lead of what they seen on
TV or are taught by coaches with little or no
assessment into the delivery technique that is easiest to
learn (only one hour for someone who has never pushed a curling
rock) and most accurate in the game of curling and that delivery
technique is the Genuflect
delivery.
