THE WORLD CURLING ALLIANCE TO PERFECT and PROMOTE
Page 2.4
STANCE IN THE HACK
INITIAL STANCE:
Right hander. Left foot in left hack. Pictured: Left hander: I am now throwing left handed and right handed. This picture demo's the left hand delivery from the RIGHT hack. Due to the "source" of the rock, I can bury with the left hand delivery in-turn such that a right hander with his "out-turn" can not touch the rock. Many "hit" opportunities are wide open to a leftee throwing the in-turn from the right hack. A TREMENDOUS CURLING ADVANTAGE. One day all pros will have to throw left and right handed to win!!
Left foot butted against hack board.
Left foot flat WILL NOT BE MOVED BACK for draw weight delivery on keen ice.
Note a knee slider on the hack foot knee.
Duct tape on slide toe of right gripper.
Weight is evenly distributed on both feet.
Trailing toe is used for rudder and break if coming out too hot.
In the currently used delivery, the hack foot/ toe and left twisted knee
carry the body's weight so the trailing leg muscles become strained and
the toe can't reliably be used as a rudder or brake.
Both hands on rock. Heel against hack cross board.
Student is prepared to initiate the "push the rock on line of sight to
brush" and then follow with the slider foot. He will put 3 of 10 rocks in the rings having never curled before! Note two hands on rock.
With the GENUFLECT delivery, the sliding knee gives everyone stability from the GO.
Stability comes from the weight spread across the width of the body (right flat foot and left knee).
Wide is better. Ask the Wide Track Pontiac car engineers.
Carefully watch the pros in the Briar or Worlds.
Fig. 2.3 EVERY PRO CURLER WOBBLES IN THE SLIDE! You will not wobble with the GENUFLECT 5 points on the ice delivery.
Curler is ready to release in the right handed delivery mode. The left hand is
being moved aside and the "turn" will be applied now. Note the rock
handle is in the 12:00 o'clock position during the delivery mode from the hack.
You will not wobble once you get a little
practice with the slide. You have 5 points of stability on the ice. It took the pros years
to try to fool Mother Nature's Laws. Your new technique does not violate
the laws of physics and you will embrace Her Laws as an asset
in one year.
Right hand is gripping handle as in the lift delivery grip. The left hand thumb overlaps the
right and the fingers are spread down on the rock. Initially, you will "ride the rock" a
little bit until you get your balance in the slide. You should not ride the rock but distribute your
weight on the slider flat foot and the knee during the delivery. The rock is centered
under the nose. Both eyes are your sight eyes, just as in basketball and shooting a shot gun.
Fig. 2.4 You do not "aim" like sighting a rifle. Note the shoulders have to be level. They
have to be square with the line of delivery. The head has to be level and square with the line of sight to the brush.
The curler is at physical ease during the entire slide cycle--no balancing on one twisted out foot and knee. The right
foot remains straight. The left leg remains straight. The body is relaxed and square with the line of delivery. JUST
LET THE ROCK GO!
