| GLOSSARY cont. RINK
A curling team normally consisting of 4 players of one or mixed
genders. A building (curling "rink") within which curling is played.
ROCK
The approximate 39--41-1/2lb., 11" diameter, specially shaped
granite stone used for curling. New note: There is a new porcelain insert/running surface
available.
ROCK MECHANICS
The study of the movement and causes of movement of rocks on the
ice sheet.
ROLL
The movement of the shooter rock (as in "hit and roll")after
impact onto the object rock.
RUN
A longitudinal (lengthways) ridge/groove/slot that influences the
running surface of the rock such that the rock is restricted in movement.
RUNNER
"Heater/hot rock/smoker" peel/high velocity takeout
shot.

SECOND
The curler who delivers rocks number 3&4.
SHEET
The specific ice playing surface on which a curling game is played. A
curling rink may have more than 1 ice sheet.
SHOOTER
Referring to the curler that is delivering the rock. Or, the
"shooter"rock/stone being delivered.
