CHAPTER 1 Tech.Sec.1.4

Now that you know how to use the genuflect delivery, it is time to learn about the other physical factors affecting the game of curling.

The following are some of the "why" questions which have generated my investigations. I hope you have many more and E-mail them to me?

1. Why do curling rocks curl and in the wrong direction?
2. What are the two friction factors that cause a rock to curl in the direction of turn and the friction factor that make it run straight?
3. What affect on rock travel does the SLOW side of the rock and the FAST side of the rock play?
4. What are the two reasons why a rock gets "started" off a line that seemed to be continuous on release with the brush.
5. The two important reasons why the Europeans, namely Finland and Norway, and some Canadian Brier champs WIG WAG their rocks on delivery release?

6. What can be learned by studying the right half (R-mode) and left half (L-mode) of the brain in relation to sport and life understanding?
7. Why can my 7 year old 60lb. students throw 41lb. rocks consistently into the rings?
8. Why can't women curl at the same elevation as men? Or can they exceed that level?

9. Contamination in your ice? Does your ice technician use city water with chemical iron/aluminum compounded flocculent which remain in the water after improper filtering along with a variety of other chemicals?
10. Why is a proper rock delivery like an airplane landing (a controlled crash)?
11. How can an elderly person, I'm 61 with bad knees (because as a young man I prayed too much) throw 300 rocks in one day with no prior conditioning and NO pain?
12. Why are the rock descriptions "cutter" and "straight' rocks a misnomer?
13. Why are water "crystals" identical to ice crystals at the molecular level and what affect does brushing have on the tetrahedral open and semi-closed structure of ice crystals in reducing friction?
14. Why is the length of your brush handle as important as the length of your golf clubs?
15. Why is physiology as important as psychology. No matter how much "mind over body" psychology is applied you can not perform at a perfectionism level if the body's sensory receptors are not transmitting proper electro/chemical messages to the brain for decoding and re-transmitting to the effectors (muscles). Also, the attempt at mind over body is fruitless if your not using the bio-mechanical rock delivery system suitable to your body configuration and that conforms to the physical laws of nature.
